Rawya Pottery
Meet Rawia Abd el Kader
In the heart of Tunis Village, Egypt, Rawia shapes clay into objects meant to be lived with -- bowls, plates, mugs, and wall pieces that carry both function and feeling. She has been working with pottery since 1997, mastering a process that begins with raw earth, moves through fire, and finishes with hand-painted color and quiet patience.

Blazing Her Own Trail
Rawia’s journey hasn’t been simple. She was the first woman in her community to open her own pottery workshop and become a business owner -- an uncommon path in a place where women were expected to stay within the home. Choosing independence through work meant facing doubt, resistance, and skepticism from fellow artisans. Still, she persisted.
Today, Rawia works alongside a small collective of women and men -- six artisans building together, piece by piece. Her workshop is an extension of her home and her pride, filled with objects that reflect years of craft, courage, and care.
Since 2001, Rawia has partnered with Fair Trade Egypt, a relationship rooted in respect, long-term support, and shared belief in skilled women’s economic independence. Through this partnership, Rawya has been able to grow her practice, reach new markets, and generate sustainable income for herself and her family.
At Kindred & Kin, we are honored to share Rawia’s work. Not just as pottery, but as proof of what’s possible when craftsmanship, conviction, and opportunity meet.
